A recent road blockage in the Alarua community in West Kwaio Malaita Province has been clarified following concerns raised this week. The incident, which occurred on Monday, was caused by a group of young boys from the area.

A woman who want his name withheld said that the boys, reportedly under the influence of alcohol and marijuana, obstructed the road.

She adds that the community was unaware of the situation until Sister Marta Nikolic from the Catholic Sisters of Charity arrived and sought assistance.

“We only learned about the roadblock when Sister Marta came, stopped, and called for help,” the woman stated.

Sister Marta, who was on her way to Afutara to pay school fees for students, encountered the blockage and quickly took action. Catechist John Lefo and other community members came to her aid to help clear the road.

Community leaders in West Kwaio strongly condemn the bad behavior and unlawful act of those youths, stating that such actions are unacceptable in their community. “Our community elders will deal with the boys who carried out this act,” she said.

The public has been calling Auki police to investigate the matter as these is not the first time for youths in that community to do such unlawful road blockades. They usually did this to demand truck owners for cash money.
