Yesterday, the Auki Market Vendors Association (MVA) held a special celebration for International Women’s Day in Auki. This event was organized in partnership with the Malaita Province Women's Desk Officer to honor the strength and resilience of women in the informal economy.

Women vendors at the market play a vital role in driving local economies and advocating for change. The celebration brought together these women to recognize their achievements and to promote a vision for a more equal future. Yesterday’s event highlighted the importance of accelerating action for all women and girls.

The Markets for Change (M4C) project supports gender equality by empowering women market vendors in Fiji, Samoa, Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu. This initiative unites governments, market vendors, vendor associations, civil society organizations, and UN agencies to create positive change. The M4C project is implemented by UN Women in collaboration with UNDP Solomon Islands and the Government of Australia.
