Beekeeping workshop ended successfully
The Beekeeping workshop for starters have successfully ended Monday last week with the handing over of bee keeping materials to the participants.
The workshop was first of it kind to be held at Buma which the participants were really learned a lot of skills and knowledge about the bee farming.
The materials handed over to the participants include tool hives, bee waxes, bee extractor, overalls, smoker and starters guide.
During the workshop, the facilitator Noah said farming of bees was not a short term income generating but its a long term income generating.
He said whats good about bee farming is that it doesn't need more labour and everyday check ups.
"Farming of bees need less labour. It's needs only an environment which their food is available, accessible and your regular check ups for pests," he said.
For the start, a farmer will need little amount of money for starting but when you first harvested your farm it will cover up your expenses depending on your hives healthiness," Noah added.
During the workshop the participants also demonstrate how to handle the bee tools, how to split and transfer qeen bee to a new hives.
More than 20 participants attended the workshop and have equipped with basic knowledge and skills of bee keeping.
Kastom Garden and Oxfam Solomon funded and facilitated the five days workshop.
