Besi ACE Christian school celebrates first graduate enrolling at USP

Alyssum Firisua has made history as the first student from Besi Accelerated Christian Education (ACE) Christian School to enroll in a Bachelor’s program at the University of the South Pacific (USP). This is a proud achievement for the school, located in the Besi community of North Malaita.
Besi ACE was established in 2003 and faced doubts about its ability to prepare students for university. However, Alyssum’s success has proven the school's commitment to providing quality education.
Abel Wanesuia, a young leader at Besi ACE, shared his thoughts on the school’s journey. Growing up, he often heard people questioning whether Besi ACE students could succeed. Now, as a leader, he has helped create opportunities for students to attend university.
ACE uses the Accelerated Christian Education (ACE) program, which allows students to learn at their own pace. This approach helps students master each subject before moving on, ensuring a strong understanding of the material. The curriculum includes academic, spiritual, and physical education, preparing students for life beyond school.
The ACE program also focuses on practical skills, such as agriculture and community development, which are important in rural areas. Students learn to take charge of their education while receiving support from dedicated teachers.
Unlike traditional schools, Besi ACE ensures that students do not fail. The program allows students to complete their Year 13 in three to four years, helping them get ready for university Wanes hi highlights the need for government support for schools like Besi ACE, which help nurture future leaders. He hopes that the government will recognize the potential of private schools in shaping the nation’s future.
The goal of Besi ACE is for students to be ready for university by the age of 17 or 18. Alyssum Firisua, now 18, has achieved this goal by enrolling in USP, paving the way for others to follow.
Her success showcases the hard work of the teachers and staff at Besi ACE. The school is gaining national recognition for its ability to provide strong educational foundations, proving that great achievements are possible, no matter where students come from.
