Children's Voices Heard at Meeting with Malaita Provincial Government.

This week, the Save the Children branch in Auki brought together its Child Advocacy Committees to meet with the Malaita Provincial Government at the Provincial Assembly Chamber. The meeting aimed to give children a platform to share their concerns and experiences.

During the meeting, Speaker of the Provincial Assembly, Joe Heroau, emphasized the importance of listening to children. He stated, “The things our children talked about in their presentation today are issues that should have been addressed already.” Mr. Heroau called for all leaders to collaborate with children, recognizing them as vital stakeholders in the community.

He expressed that the concerns raised by the children need serious attention in government policies. “It is time for us, as leaders, to take responsibility and address the challenges children face—not just in our communities but across the country,” he said.
The meeting featured ten children from Child Advocacy Committees representing four communities and two schools in Malaita. They shared their experiences with issues such as climate change and drug abuse affecting their schools and communities.

This high-level dialogue is part of Save the Children’s Endim Vaelens Agenstim Pikinini program, which is supported by the New Zealand Government. The initiative aims to empower children and ensure their voices are heard in discussions that impact their lives.
