Kwara’ae Learning Corner Begins First Cultural Class.

The Kwara’ae Learning Corner in Central Kwara’ae has launched its first-ever cultural class in 2025. The school, located in Gwaunafiu along Busurata road, aims to promote the local culture and language.

Founder Lesley Sanga expressed his excitement during an interview with Malaita Issues in Auki. The inaugural class took place yesterday and attracted many children eager to learn about Kwara’ae culture. Sanga shared his happiness about the strong interest shown by the children in learning their native dialect.
"As a teacher and a young man passionate about keeping our Kwara’ae culture alive, I am thrilled with the attendance at my first class. This is a dream come true for me," he said.
Mr. Sanga revealed that he has been working on this idea since 2019, and the first class marks a significant breakthrough for him. While he has taught in schools before, starting his own school and teaching young children made this experience special. "Teaching in schools was selective and not inclusive, but this knowledge needs to be shared with everyone," he added.
The first topic covered was the Kwara’ae language, which Mr. Sanga emphasized is unique and must be preserved for future generations. He warned that the language is already about 60% lost, and if action is not taken, it may disappear entirely.
Mr. Sanga called for collective efforts to preserve the culture, stating, "It is important for everyone to work together because our culture is our origin." The launch of the Kwara’ae Learning Corner's cultural class represents an important step in safeguarding the rich heritage of the Kwara’ae people.
