Malaita Province Regains its Qualification for PCDF after being Disqualified for 2 Years.
The Malaita province has finally regained its qualification for the prestigious Provincial Capacity Development Fund (PCDF) after being disqualified for two years. The news of the qualification came last week after the province successfully passed the 2022-2023 PCDF assessment conducted by MPGIS in September.
Premier of Malaita province, Elijah Asilaua, expressed his gratitude to all sectors within the provincial government for their efforts in achieving this milestone. He noted that the province had lost millions of dollars in funding during the past two years when it failed to qualify for the PCDF program.
As a result of the qualification, Malaita province will now be able to implement 10 PCDF projects approved for the 2023-2024 financial year. Additionally, Asilaua mentioned that the province will be looking at including new projects in the approved PCDF for the upcoming financial year.
To accommodate these changes, a meeting will be held next week with Heads of Divisions and the provincial PCDF committee to determine the additional areas to be included in the revised budget. Asilaua emphasized that this delay in the budget meeting is necessary to ensure that the revised budget captures the additional projects, especially those under the PCDF program.
He assured that all processes will be completed soon to allow for the revised budget to be presented by the end of the month or early next month. This development marks a significant achievement for the province and its ruling provincial government.
