Malaita Provincial Government Builds New Concrete Benches for Fishermen at Auki Market.
The Malaita Provincial Government (MPG) has recently completed the construction of new concrete benches at the Auki market, providing local fishermen with a designated and hygienic space to sell their fish. This is to enhance the marketing conditions for fishermen while promoting health and cleanliness in Auki town.
Eric George, the Provincial Secretary for the Malaita Provincial Government, highlighted the importance this initiative to Malaita Issues . He stated that the new concrete benches are part of the "Malaita Green Healthy Setting" program, which was launched earlier this year to address hygiene concerns in Auki town.
"Prior to this initiative, fishermen were selling their catch at the old Auki market, which was not suitable for food sales due to unhygienic conditions," PS George explained. "Recognizing this issue, the MPG committed to creating a proper place and environment for our fishermen, and these new benches are a direct result of that promise."
In addition to improving market facilities, the Malaita Provincial Government is also taking steps to enhance security in the Auki town . A new security house has been built at the Malaita Provincial Office headquarters in Auki, further ensuring the safety of residents and visitors alike.
George reaffirmed the government's commitment to ongoing improvements in Auki, stating, "We are dedicated to enhancing the living conditions in our town and ensuring that our markets are safe, clean, and conducive to healthy trade."
