MPA Support Rehabilitation of Makokoa, Jordan, Silolo, Tatefata, and Magwabaru Community Water Project.
Ward 9, North Malaita, the communities of Makokoa, Jordan, Silolo, Tatefata, and Magwabaru are taking a step forward in securing access to clean and reliable water. After years of water shortages and aging infrastructure, the long-anticipated water dam rehabilitation and construction project has finally commenced.
The project, funded by the Member of Assembly for Ward 9 Hon George Ganiau under the Ward Development Grant of the Malaita Provincial Government, which involves the rehabilitation of existing water dams for Makokoa, Silolo, Tatefata, and Magwabaru communities. These dams, which have served the people of that area for years, are now being upgraded to ensure they continue to meet the growing demand. Additionally, a new dam is being constructed for Jordan Community to provide fresh water access and enhance its water supply system.
Materials for the project have already been delivered, and construction efforts are underway. The Ward 9 Development Committee, in collaboration with local leaders and residents, is spearheading the initiative to ensure the project is rooted in community needs and aspirations.
For years, inconsistent water supply has been a persistent challenge for these communities, forcing many families to walk long distances to access water. The rehabilitation and new dam construction will significantly improve access to clean water, enhancing sanitation, hygiene, and the overall quality of life.
