Ofi Tribe in Kwaio, Malaita Province, Plans Sacramental Reconciliation to unite its people and Land

The Ofi tribe in Kwaio, Malaita Province, is planning a sacramental reconciliation event next month March from 06th-09th 2025 to bring their sub-tribes together for unity and future development aspirations.
Chief John Paul Ilokeu, the spokesperson for the OFI Reconciliation Committee, announced that the event will take place at the Buma Catholic Pastoral Centre in West Kwaio, with Fr. Charles leading the ceremony.
Around ten tribes from both East and West Kwaio, connected to Ofi land, will come together for this important occasion. Chief Ilokeu explained that in recent years, the Ofi tribe and its groups have not been able to contribute much to development due to land disputes and tribal conflicts.
He adds, βto over come these issues, the chiefs have decided to hold this event to unite the tribes before seeking further development aspirationsβ

He also mentioned that this reconciliation plan was not a new idea from the current chiefs but had been discussed by the Lafari and Fadanga Houses of Chiefs in the past. The event aims to continue the work started by their ancestors many years ago.
