Umi for Change (U4C) party member of parliament of North Malaita commence delivery of support to Constituency.

𝑴𝒂𝒍𝒖𝒖- North Malaita Constituency office under the leadership of Hon. Daniel Waneoroa (a member of U4C party) commenced productive sector support and service to the people within North Malaita Constituency.

The support which is currently deliver to people across the three Wards (W7,W8, and W9) consist of agriculture supplies and materials to North Malaita farmers, boats and engine for fishermen in fisheries sector,  hammer mill machine for small scale meat processing operation and building and hardware material for churches across the constituency.

Speaking to Malaita Issue from Maluu, in North Malaita, Hon. Waneoroa said “the support was generated based on the priority and development need of the three Wards and the Constituency as a whole. As I came into office in 2024, we had conducted a constituency profiling and survey, the outcome of the survey shows that people in the constituency had listed income generating activities including agriculture and fisheries as priority areas that constituency should support.

The rural economy of North Malaita Constituency depends on Agricultural (including cocoa, coconut, small scale livestock and root crops) and fisheries (mostly coastal fisheries and small-scale pelagic fishery). Therefore, it is important that we continue to support these sectors to ensure our rural economy is restore, scale up and thrive to benefit the people and the province. Our aim is to create a rural economy that is driven by agriculture, fisheries and small scale meat processing.

The support will be given to both the individual farmers and the organize farm groups that organized through community company, Agri-producer groups and associations or community organise groups. So, the constituency will support rehabilitation of old farms, support to establish new farms, pruning tools, nursery nets and processing equipment. In particular, farmers will be receiving about 30,000 polybags to rehabilitate and establish cocoa farms of about 100 hectares in size, fertilizers, wheelbarrow, gumboots, nets, chainsaw and other agricultural tools.  About 6 hammer mill machines will give to farmers to produce meat. The support and service will be delivering to all the constituents.  We hope these supports will have impacts on lives of people in the rural economy.

In terms of fisheries sector, the constituency is delivering boats for fishemen to restore the fisheries satellite centres that used to benefit the rural people in North Malaita before the ethnic tension period that caused the centre to closed. We will start with 5 boats and monitor its progress and then expand if the operation and support is viable,  sustainable and benefiting our rural fishermen and women.

Speaking on behave of the rural people in North Malaita Constituency, Joseph Ramo acknowledged the Constituency Office through leadership of Hon Daniel S Waneoroa for support the Agriculture and Fisheries sector in North Malaita. Agriculture and Fisheries is the two sectors that people heavily involved and rely on for livelihood and income, thus it is only reasonable that Government continue to support the sectors. Mr Ramo also acknowledge Hon Waneoroa and representative within the NMC office for supporting church across the constituency as churches are the foundation of our society today.
