AUKI, Malaita Province โ The Malaita Provincial Youth Council (MPYC) has successfully concluded its week-long training on Leadership, Advocacy, and Project Grant Management at the Malaita Youth Hub in Auki. The training, which commenced on Monday, March 10, 2025, ended today, Friday, March 14, with a grant signing agreement.

MPYC President Phillip Subu expressed gratitude to the youth representatives for their active participation throughout the five-day training. He also extended his appreciation to the Government of Australia, through the Australia Solomon Islands Program Support (ASIPS), for funding the program and for its continued support towards the MPYCโs initiatives.

Provincial Secretary (PS) Eric George commended the youth for seizing the opportunity to learn and exchange knowledge through the Youth Council. He also acknowledged the Australian Government, through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), for its commitment to empowering young people in Malaita. PS George emphasized that this support benefits both Malaita and the Solomon Islands as a whole. He further reiterated the Malaita Provincial Governmentโs ongoing commitment to youth employment and economic empowerment in the province. Additionally, he highlighted the significance of young womenโs participation in the training and encouraged more inclusivity in future programs.

Hon. John Sugono, the Malaita Provincial Government Minister for Youth, Women, and Sports, also attended the grant signing ceremony. Addressing the participants, he urged them to share the knowledge gained from the training with their respective communities, stating, โDo not sleep on what you have learned. Take it back to your wards and put it into practice.โ
The successful completion of the training marks another milestone in MPYCโs efforts to equip young people with the skills and resources needed to lead and advocate for community development in Malaita Province.
