Youths from Su'u and Igwa Rebuild Impassable Igwa Bridge

Young people from Su'u Harbour and Igwa communities in West Kwaio have come together to fix the Igwa Bridge, which has been too dangerous and has been impassablefor trucks to cross since last Saturday.
The deteriorating state of the bridge had posed serious safety risks, leaving it unsafe for heavy vehicles to cross. With no alternate wet crossing available, the situation had disrupted transportation and hindered access to Auki, the provincial capital.
Responding to the urgent need, young people from Su'u and Igwa communities began work early this morning to remove the old, rotting timber that made up the bridge's surface. They have since started cutting new timber to carry out temporary repairs that will allow vehicles to cross safely once completed.
The youth expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the owner of ESEL Transport, who played a key role in mobilizing and organizing the volunteer effort. His leadership has been instrumental in bringing the communities together to address the issue without delay.
At present, the bridge remains closed to truck traffic. Travelers heading to Auki must disembark and cross the bridge on foot before boarding another vehicle on the other side.
The community hopes the temporary repair will be finished soon so that vehicles can use the bridge again.
