Youths in Auki Town Form New Committee to Address Local Issues

Auki, Malaita - A group of ten young people gathered at the Malaita Youth Hub for a half-day meeting to establish a new committee focused on addressing pressing youth issues in Auki Town and its surrounding areas.

The discussion comes in light of recent efforts by the Auki police to tackle youth-related problems which arise in Auki town suburbs. These leaders praised Auki police for their commitment to making Auki a safer place for everyone.

Richard Olita, Youth Coordinator for the YECA project, along with Frank Samo from the Malaita Youth Division and Malaita Youth Council President Phillip Subu, led the meeting to brainstorm solutions for the challenges facing young people in the area.

Phillip Subu expressed his support for the formation of the Auki Youth Committee, stating, “I am happy to support this initiative. With the pressing youth issues in Auki Town, it is critical to establish a youth body that will work directly with our young people. The sooner, the better.”

He emphasized the importance of this new committee, especially given the growing youth population in Auki. The Malaita Provincial Youth Council is eager to support the committee and engage with them in their activities.

Subu also thanked Richie Olita and Frank Samo for their valuable support in making the formation of the Auki Youth Committee possible. The new committee aims to create positive changes and address the needs of the youth in the community.
